My Experience with Mental Health – Personal and Professional

My journey with mental health has been a significant part of my life, shaping who I am both personally and professionally. I’ve lived with clinical depression for over a decade, managed chronic anxiety since childhood, and dealt with an intrusive and challenging experience of OCD that greatly impacted my day-to-day life. More recently, I was diagnosed with ADHD, which brought new insights into my cognitive patterns and how I process information. These experiences have given me a unique, empathetic perspective on mental health challenges and resilience, allowing me to understand the importance of representation, support, and accurate storytelling when addressing mental health topics.

Seeking support has been an ongoing part of my mental health journey. I’ve been in therapy since a young age, consistently working on self-reflection, emotional regulation, and cognitive strategies. Additionally, I’ve been on mental health medication for nearly ten years, which has provided me with firsthand knowledge of both the benefits and challenges of therapeutic and pharmacological mental health support. This personal experience enables me to bring an authentic, compassionate approach to content feedback and development, ensuring that mental health narratives are handled sensitively and accurately.

Professionally, my mental health experience has shaped my approach to work and creativity. As an author of Ember of Light, I delved into character development and storytelling with a commitment to addressing real emotional experiences, including trauma, self-discovery, and inner struggles. My attention to detail in writing, editing, and revising allowed me to explore these themes with honesty and nuance. Additionally, my time working in roles involving data entry, administrative tasks, and client interactions honed my organizational skills and resilience, even in high-pressure environments. I’ve learned to manage workload complexities, meet deadlines, and support teams—all while maintaining a commitment to delivering accurate and thoughtful work.

This blend of personal insight, academic knowledge in psychology and human development, and practical experience in professional environments equips me to bring a unique and valuable perspective to content development. I am passionate about ensuring that mental health content is accurate, respectful, and relatable, promoting inclusivity and supporting readers who might see their struggles reflected authentically on the page.
